Cute, Easy-to-Do Hairstyles for New Moms

Whether you’re a new or expectant mom, congratulations on your new little one! There’s no doubt it’s a busy time in your life when your child is little, and a lot of changes happen in your body when you’re no longer pregnant as well. One of the things you might notice is a change in your hair. While this can be unsettling, it’s completely normal. All you need are a few adjustments and you’ll be able to rock some cute hairstyles that will make you look and feel incredible.

As your child develops, you’re probably paying a lot more attention to nourishment for a healthy baby, and most of us take prenatal vitamins as well. All that extra nutrition can actually prevent hair from its usual natural shedding.

Hair grows from follicles, and follicles have growth, resting, and shedding stages. On a normal day, you’ll shed about 50 to 100 strands of hair because all your follicles are at different stages in this growth cycle. So, when your hair doesn’t shed because of added nutrition during pregnancy, it tends to happen all at once when you’re no longer pregnant. That can create noticeably thinner hair – but don’t worry, that’s only temporary, until your follicles get into a natural cycle again.

In the meantime, there’s a lot you can do with your hair to give it more volume and to style it in ways that work better for your new lifestyle as a new mom! Here are some of our favorite cute and easy styles for that incredible stage of our lives as new mothers.

  • The bob. The bob is a great haircut for new moms because it’s cute, easy to care for, and it’s trending – all at the same time. The bob is a chin-length cut that’s an even length all the way around, or you can try an asymmetrical bob that’s longer on one side. The short bob style gets hair out of the way of your baby’s exploring grasp, and it takes off just enough weight to make even thinner hair look fuller.

  • The carré. This style is a French-inspired variation on a bob that has the same overall length but with varying layers. Layers give your hair more volume and a more dramatic shape. You get the same perfect length with a little extra flair for a great new mom look.

  • The layered lob. This is a sexy cut that gives you a nice feminine style for you new look. If you don’t want to take off a lot of hair but want an easier style, this is a great choice for you. The lob means ‘long bob,’ and this cut usually reaches about shoulder length. The layers give it more texture, and you can even add bangs for an interesting shape and facial framing effect.

  • Bangs. Speaking of bangs, just about every style of bangs is trending this season, and it’s a great way to change up your look with little effort. Just ask your Cre8 stylist to add some bangs to your haircut and see what an incredible difference they make. You can go for some long curtain bangs that part in the middle and flow into your hairstyle, or try some shorter fringe for a new shape that frames your facial features.

No matter which style you choose, don’t forget to add self-care to your routine as a new mom! We know how busy you are caring for a new little one, and sometimes we all tend to let our personal care go to focus on family. But keeping up with regular haircuts keeps your hair healthier by getting rid of those split ends that can cause breakage. Also, coming in for a deep conditioning service will help keep your hair silky soft even after you’ve ditched the prenatal vitamins.

What’s more, taking some time for yourself – and letting the grandparents take the baby for a couple of hours – helps you recharge and destress so you can have more energy to enjoy the little ones while they’re still little.
